This Is What We Are
Formed at a Velvet Revolver gig in 2005 the name gave birth to the band - initially writing for fun and with the intention of cajoling a bunch of mates into to a few local gigs for beer money. Within a few months a permanent bass player and drummer were recruited and at this stage the band recorded their first demo – the Wake Up Or Die EP – which got them play-listed and interviewed on UK’s Total Rock Radio. Further recording followed and by the end of the year the band had started playing its first gigs.
In 2006, the band scaled down to a four-piece and this gave them a fresh impetus and a tighter sound. Gigging and writing throughout the following year - including a Kerrang! Radio show - was followed in late 2007 by the release of the single Long Time Dead which has been featured on Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson BBC 6 Rock Show and John Kennedy’s XFM show. The flip side 'Skull & Bones' was featured on a covermount CD with UK magazine Rock Sound in January 2008.
The debut video for Long Time Dead has been aired on MTV’s Headbangers Ball in the UK, Europe, South Africa and the US, it was included in their Best of 2007 year end program. 2007 also saw the band's demo track The Antidote feature on Channel 4's Dizzee Rascal: Bow Selector.
2008 has seen them play London gigs at venues such as the Underworld, 100 Club, Barfly, Water Rats and the Borderline, supporting the likes of Fucked Up, Jaguar Love, Slaves to Gravity and Innerpartysystem.
2009 will see Fuckshovel showcasing at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival, Austin TX from March 18-22, followed by an appearance at the Gathering of the Thousands festival in London, April 10th and numerous tbc shows.
They are about to finish their first album 'This Is What We Are' which is being recorded at Metropolis/Battery studios with producer Rohan Onraet (credits with Slipknot/Machine Head).
Long Time Dead and Skull & Bones are available as a 7” picture disc and can both be downloaded on iTunes now.
